Performance Paranoia?

Performance conversations can be a terrifying ordeal. Whether you’re a solid performer or someone who struggles a bit, we can often turn up feeling uneasy, anxious or a bit defensive.

Performance appraisals are often the annual ritual everyone dreads. And these anxieties apply just as much to managers as they do to staff. We can both feel uncomfortable, under-prepared, or a bit testy or touchy.

Most performance conversations training is for leaders. But to work well, performance conversations should be two-way.

Managers may play the lead-role in initiating and engaging staff, but let’s not forget the other key player.  

While it’s up to leaders to make it safe for staff to engage and talk frankly, it’s also up to staff to approach performance conversations in constructive and positive ways to identify things that enable them to do their job better and grow. That way, everyone wins.

Making Performance Conversations Work for YouA half-day Session to level the playing field by helping staff understand what a good performance conversation should be like and equipping them with tools to engage more competently and positively in the process.

Sessions are based on 12 Positive Performance Conversations Pointers that match up with the footings and frameworks we cover with those doing the leader version of this workshop (see below).  Whether attending a morning or afternoon Session, your Staff will:

ü  Engage more constructively in performance conversations

ü  Find out what they can do to make them work better

ü  Learn how to prepare and plan better for them

ü  Keep them two-way and  make sure managers don’t monopolise

ü  Control anxiety, stave-off defensive urges and focus on facts

ü  Cope better with getting difficult or uncomfortable feedback

ü  Take a positive, future-focused solution-based approach to performance issues
