a roadmap & tools to convert destructive confrontation

into constructive conversation

Ten Top Tips to Tackle Tough Talks

All teams have difficult moments, times when we tend argue or sulk, where we retreat or retaliate. We have to confront issues when people disagree over priorities or approaches, cross-lines, ignore rules, don’t do what they promise, or behave in ways that upset the rest of the team.

Conflict isn’t always bad. But there’s constructive conflict, where there’s a will to clear the air and sort issues out; and destructive conflict, where feuds destabilise teamwork and ruin relationships

How we handle difficult team moments makes all the difference. Sometimes, we fumble them by raising issues in the wrong way; saying things in ways that ignite defensiveness and spark strong emotions, or putting people on the back-foot by trying to impose our version of the story without hearing theirs first.

Do you want to cope more confidently with contentious conversations?
